Goa, June 28 -- Hundreds of devotees gathered at the Katamgal Dada shrine in Farmagudi following a call by activist Gurudas Naik to oppose the proposed IIT project near the revered deity's shrine.

Devotees are expected to decide whether they will permit the institute to come up in the area, amid concerns that survey markers have allegedly been placed within land believed to belong to the deity.

The plateau surrounding GEC, known as Katamgal Dada, is home to the famous Amrai (mango grove) associated with the shrine.
