Goa, Oct. 5 -- Seventeen people have died in Darjeeling after heavy rains caused landslides, cutting off road connectivity to key routes, including those linking Darjeeling to Siliguri and Sikkim. Rescue operations have been launched by police and local administration. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit the area tomorrow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives, promising "all possible assistance" to those affected. Tourist spots, including Tiger Hill and Rock Garden, have been closed, and toy train services suspended to prevent further incidents. Authorities have advised residents and tourists to stay alert and follow weather updates.
