Goa, Sept. 9 -- The assurance of waiving the garbage tax for residents of Curchorem continues to remain unfulfilled, despite repeated promises from successive Chief Ministers.

Former CM Manohar Parrikar had pledged that once the solid waste management facility plant was established in Curchorem, the garbage tax for locals would be scrapped. The commitment was later reiterated by current Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant during his inspection of the plant.

However, no official decision has been taken to implement the waiver. Residents, who had made sacrifices for the plant's establishment, argue that they deserve relief-especially since the facility is now managing waste not only from Curchorem but also from Margao.
