Goa, Oct. 27 -- The Opposition Congress staged a protest and gheraoed the Chief Electrical Engineer at Vidyut Bhavan on Monday, alleging a massive Rs 890 crore scam in the smart power metre project. Party leaders questioned how a tender initially valued at Rs 396 crore was awarded at a cost of Rs 890 crore.
Responding to the allegations, the Chief Electrical Engineer clarified that the higher figure included GST and a central government grant, not the actual tender amount. He emphasised that there was no discrepancy in the tendering process.
