Goa, Sept. 25 -- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao extended their congratulations to Ganesh Gaonkar on being elected as the new Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

Speaking after the election, CM Sawant expressed confidence in Gaonkar's ability to uphold the dignity and responsibilities of the Speaker's office. "I am confident that Ganesh Gaonkar will do justice to the chair and ensure smooth functioning of the House," the Chief Minister said.

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, while also congratulating Gaonkar, stressed the importance of neutrality in the Speaker's role. "The Speaker cannot be a 'hop-on, hop-off' figure. He must rise above politics and not function as part of the government,"...
