Goa, April 9 -- Pramod Sawant has welcomed the defeat of a rare no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, calling it a reaffirmation of the strength of India's democratic institutions.

Referring to the motion considered in the Lok Sabha on March 11, 2026, Sawant noted that such motions against a Speaker are extremely unusual in Indian parliamentary history.

He said the motion was debated amid considerable controversy but expressed pride that the democratic process prevailed, with the proposal being decisively defeated by a voice vote.
