Goa, Oct. 20 -- Chennai witnessed heavy rains on Monday as Diwali celebrations began, affecting several parts of the city and suburbs, including Velachery, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, and ECR Neelankarai. Many areas reported waterlogging, disrupting traffic and daily life. Residents were advised to exercise caution while commuting.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places across several districts. Coastal Tamil Nadu is expected to continue receiving rainfall through October 22.
