Goa, Aug. 9 -- Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Friday urged the government to set up a Goa State Minority Commission, a statutory body required to safeguard the rights and interests of minority communities in the State.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Viegas said that despite its importance, the Minority Commission remains absent, leaving minority communities without a dedicated platform to address their concerns.

Viegas further stated that the ruling party, in its March 2012 Election Manifesto, had pledged to establish a Minority Commission in the State if voted back to power. "This promise, till date, has not been fulfilled," he said.
