Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Skips BRICS Summit, Set to Attend UN General Assembly in New York
Goa, Sept. 16 -- Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman did not attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi despite receiving an invitation from India, but he is scheduled to travel to New York on September 21 to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Rahman has not yet made an official visit to India since taking office in February 2026. India had extended two separate invitations to the Bangladesh prime minister - one for a bilateral visit and another to attend the BRICS outreach session in his capacity as chair of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
