Assonora Man Loses Rs 2.23 Lakh in KYC Scam After WhatsApp Contact
Goa, Oct. 1 -- An Assonora man was allegedly cheated of Rs 2,23,999 after an unidentified person impersonating a representative of UCO Bank's Panjim branch contacted him on WhatsApp, claiming that his KYC details needed to be updated.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly sent the victim an APK file and persuaded him to share his ATM card details and PIN.
The fraudster subsequently allegedly used the information to carry out multiple point-of-sale (POS) transactions, resulting in a total debit of Rs 2,23,999 from the victim's account.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to trace the person responsible for the alleged fraud.
