Goa, Aug. 7 -- The Delhi High Court on Friday questioned the continued use of Jantar Mantar as a protest site, observing that demonstrations at the centrally located venue could unnecessarily disrupt movement across the national capital. The court said protests should not result in the entire city being affected, particularly when essential services and traffic movement are involved.

Justice Amit Mahajan made the observations while hearing a petition filed by the All India Dalit Christian Rights Protection Committee, which had sought permission to hold a three-hour protest at Jantar Mantar on August 10. The group wants to highlight its demand for the inclusion of Dalit Christians within the Scheduled Castes.
