In 1960, the average life expectancy for a person in Cote d'Ivoire stood at just 37.244 years. This figure saw consistent annual growth throughout the following two decades, crossing the 50-year milestone in 1978. By 1987, the nation reached a then record high of 53.118 years before entering a period of demographic volatility.
