These injuries often cause extensive tissue devitalization, contamination, open fractures, vascular injuries, and complex soft tissue damage, which may substantially increase the risk of severe wound infection, multidrug-resistant bacterial infection, repeated surgical procedures, limb loss, and sepsis.
