India, June 4 -- Life expectancy in Bulgaria rose to its highest recorded level in 2023, continuing a long-term upward trend despite setbacks during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Steady Gains Over Six Decades Data show that life expectancy in Bulgaria increased from 69.2 years in 1960 to 75.7 years in 2023, representing a gain of about 6.5 years over the 63-year period. The latest figure marks the highest level recorded in the dataset.

Pandemic Causes Temporary Decline The country experienced a notable drop in life expectancy during the pandemic years. After reaching 75.1 years in 2019, the indicator fell to 73.4 years in 2020 and further to 71.2 years in 2021, reflecting the health impact of the global crisis.
