Dehradun, Aug. 6 -- With Assembly elections due in 2027, the Election Commission has struck off 17 non-recognised political parties from the registered list in Uttarakhand, barring them from contesting the next assembly polls due early next year. While BJP and Congress are already preparing for the electoral battle, the Chief Electoral Officer's office has begun its own exercise of streamlining the process. Alongside the removals, six new parties have applied for registration. Independent MLA from Khanpur, Umesh Kumar has also formally registered his Jan Nirman Party with the Election Commission.
