COLOMBO, Aug. 9 -- India has handed over a fresh consignment of Bailey bridges weighing approximately 251 metric tonnes to Sri Lanka as part of its support for reconstruction following Cyclone Ditwah.

The consignment was formally handed over on August 6 by Indian Deputy High Commissioner Maitri Kulkarni to Deputy Minister of Co-operative Development Upali Samarasinghe.

The bridges are part of India's USD 450 million reconstruction and rehabilitation package for Sri Lanka announced following the cyclone.

The bridges will be installed by an Indian Army Engineering Task Force at locations identified by Sri Lanka's Road Development Authority and Provincial Road Development Authorities.
