India, Sept. 9 -- Thieves stole four paintings by French Impressionist master Pierre-Auguste Renoir from the Renoir Museum on the French Riviera, leaving behind a trail that adds another high-profile case to the history of museum heists. Two of the stolen works were abandoned in the museum garden as the suspects escaped, while two paintings remain missing.

The theft took place at the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, which houses 12 works by the celebrated artist. The missing paintings have been identified as "Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano" and "Young Woman at the Well".
