India, Aug. 25 -- Kit Harington is heading from Westeros to Hogwarts, with the Game of Thrones star set to play Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO's Harry Potter series. He replaces Nicholas Hoult, who has exited the project because of scheduling conflicts involving his other commitments.

Harington Takes Over Lockhart Role

Harington will portray the flamboyant Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in the second season, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Lockhart is known for his exaggerated claims of heroic exploits, vanity and obsession with fame. The character was previously played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation.
