India, Oct. 1 -- A tragic 2003 shooting in Baghdad and its lasting impact on an Iraqi family and a US Marine form the centre of Reed Van Dyk's Atonement, with Kenneth Branagh playing the journalist who helps bring the two sides together. The film is set to begin its limited theatrical release on October 2.
From a 2012 article to the screen
Van Dyk first encountered the story in a 2012 New Yorker article by journalist Dexter Filkins. He returned to it after his short film DeKalb Elementary received an Oscar nomination in 2018, eventually developing the material into his feature directorial debut.
