India, Aug. 18 -- Hayden Panettiere's memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning has offered a deeply personal account of addiction, trauma, motherhood and the pressures she experienced after becoming a child star. Released in May 2026, the book has drawn renewed attention following the actress's death at 36 on August 16.
Doctor's chilling warning
Panettiere recalled being warned by a doctor that continued drinking could leave her dead within five years. She described alcohol as a way of numbing depression, trauma and emotional pain.
The actress also detailed the difficult physical effects of withdrawal during an eight-month treatment programme in 2020, including severe shaking, insomnia and headaches.
