India, Sept. 9 -- Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil is designed to welcome both longtime fans and viewers entering the franchise for the first time. The reboot, starring Austin Abrams, arrives in theatres on September 18, 2026, with a new story set amid a zombie outbreak in Raccoon City.
A Fresh Start for the Franchise
Unlike the earlier live-action films led by Milla Jovovich, Cregger's movie is not a continuation of Alice's storyline. The six-film series released between 2002 and 2016 followed Alice as she battled the Umbrella Corporation and the T-virus, while Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City served as a separate reboot in 2021.
