India, July 20 -- Director Christopher Nolan has achieved his most successful opening weekend to date as his mythological epic The Odyssey grossed a staggering $264.1 million worldwide.

Breaking Historical Milestones The film, which serves as an adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek poem, surpassed the global debut of Nolan's previous record holder, The Dark Knight Rises, which opened at $249 million in 2012.
