India, Sept. 17 -- Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with changing the way India's film awards are selected, saying public participation helped address what he described as nepotism and favouritism in the process. Nag made the remarks after being announced as the recipient of the 2024 Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Speaking to PTI, Nag said the award-giving system had previously faced concerns over nepotism and favouritism. According to the actor, Modi changed the process by inviting members of the public to recommend names for consideration.
