Dhaka, Sept. 10 -- Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has described a recent fire at a temporary office of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project as a "minor incident", saying it occurred outside the main nuclear facility and posed no threat to the plant's safety.

The fire, which broke out early on September 7 at a temporary building at the project's Pioneer Base, was apparently caused by an electrical short circuit, the minister said.

Some furniture and documents were damaged, while a server and IT and communication equipment of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission were also affected. Internet connectivity and, in some locations, electricity and water supplies were disrupted following the incident.
