Dhaka, June 23 -- The government currently has no plan to provide new natural gas connections to the residential sector as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has become easily available.

Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud disclosed this information on Monday while responding to a question from Narsingdi-5 constituency lawmaker Md. Ashraf Uddin in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament).

The minister said that due to a decline in domestic gas production and continued supply shortages despite the addition of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), new gas connections in the residential, commercial and CNG sectors have remained suspended according to a circular issued on 23 July 2025.
