Dhaka, June 2 -- The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is set to announce new electricity tariffs just five working days after holding public hearings. The revised electricity prices will be announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Public hearings were held on May 20 and 21. Afterward, there were only three working days before the Eid holidays. The new tariffs are being announced immediately after government offices reopened following the holiday.

Never before have electricity tariffs been announced so quickly after a hearing. Under existing regulations, BERC is required to announce its decision within 90 days of the hearing.
