Dhaka, July 28 -- Bangladesh has sought Malaysia's assistance in addressing its ongoing energy crisis, with Prime Minister Tarek Rahman holding a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit told reporters at the Secretariat that Malaysia had assured Bangladesh of support to the best of its ability in overcoming the current crisis.

Bangladesh has been grappling with a severe gas shortage for nearly a week. The crisis has left many households without cooking gas, forced industries to scale back production and caused long queues at CNG filling stations across the country.
