Dhaka, Sept. 14 -- Bangladesh plans to set up five floating LNG terminals in phases to address the country's persistent gas shortage, with three terminals to be developed initially and two more later, the government said on Monday.

The plan was unveiled at a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and leaders of 21 business organisations and media representatives at the Secretariat.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit presented the government's short-, medium- and long-term plans for electricity and gas at the meeting.

The government is working to begin construction of the country's third floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) before 2028, officials said.
