Dhaka, April 30 -- The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved the import of 100,000 tons of diesel to meet urgent fuel demand.

The meeting was held Thursday at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. The total cost of importing the diesel will be Tk 1,757.94 crore.

The approval was given to import 100,000 metric tons of diesel from Majda Oil Company Ltd. through the direct procurement method.

Following the meeting, the Ministry of Finance stated that the proposal was approved in light of the unstable geopolitical situation arising from tensions involving Iran and the United States-Israel conflict.
