Kathmandu, Sept. 3 -- The August 26 Bhotekoshi flood destroyed around 15 settlements across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, leaving communities that lived there for decades devastated. The government has begun homework to identify safe locations for the relocation and reconstruction of affected settlements.

The National Planning Commission (NPC) has begun work on a comprehensive master plan for rebuilding damaged infrastructure, developing safer settlements and addressing longer-term development needs in the flood-hit areas.

NPC Vice-chair Gunakar Bhatta said the commission had also started preparations for a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA).
