MENTAL WELLBEING: When disappointment feels like danger
Kathmandu, July 28 -- For some people, disappointing someone is an uncomfortable but ordinary part of life. For others, it can feel like a serious threat. A delayed reply, a disagreement, or a simple 'no' may trigger intense guilt, anxiety, and the fear that a relationship will fall apart.
This fear often has roots in childhood. Children who learn that affection, approval, or emotional safety depends on obedience and achievement may grow into adults who constantly monitor the feelings of others. They may become skilled at keeping people happy while gradually losing touch with their own needs, opinions, and desires.
