Kathmandu, March 10 -- Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal has returned the 'red passport' issued to him for diplomatic use.

Announcing the decision through a Facebook post on Tuesday, Khanal said he had handed the passport back to the Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after its purpose ended.

"This red passport was the only government property in my possession, and I am returning it as well," Khanal wrote on his Facebook wall.

He said the diplomatic passport had been provided to him for use in his capacity as finance minister, and since its purpose had ended, he had requested the passport department to accept it back.
