Birgunj, Sept. 18 -- The curfew in Birgunj has been lifted, officials confirmed on Thursday. Overnight restrictions had been imposed in key areas of the city since the first day of the Gen Z protests.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the district security committee chaired by chief district officer Toya Narayan Subedi.

The curfew had previously been enforced from 9pm to 5am, covering the Bypass Road in the east, the Sirsiya Bridge in the west, the northern Gandak Chowk and the southern Shankaracharya Gate.

However, the committee has maintained certain areas as declared riot-affected zones. These include the stretch from Ghantaghar Chowk to Gandak Chowk, as well as Birgunj Prison and its surrounding compound.
