Butwal, April 16 -- metropolitan City has started a drive to clear encroached footpaths, remove illegal roadside structures and tow away improperly parked vehicles from busy market areas. The action began on Wednesday after repeated complaints that traders and vehicle dealers were occupying pedestrian pathways for business activities.

On Wednesday, the municipality used a bulldozer to demolish structures built on encroached sections of Bhudki Chowk, one of the city's busiest intersections. On Thursday morning, it continued the operation by using cranes to remove vehicles parked on footpaths. Officials said traders and property owners had ignored prior warnings issued through public announcements over the past three days.
