Sankhuwasabha, Feb. 28 -- A Bailey bridge over the Arun River connecting Num and Seduwa in Makalu Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha collapsed on Saturday morning, disrupting vehicular movement along the route to Makalu Base Camp.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office said that the bridge gave way while a heavy vehicle carrying construction materials was crossing it.

"The structure suddenly buckled when the truck reportedly reached the middle of the bridge before plunging into the river below. The collapse has brought traffic along the Num-Seduwa road section to a complete halt," he said.
