UDHAMPUR, Aug. 2 -- In a heartbreaking incident that has left the entire region in mourning, Rajendra Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ramnagar, and his young son lost their lives in a devastating landslide in the Salukh Ikhatar Nala area of Reasi district late Friday night.
The tragic event occurred while SDM Rajendra Singh was returning to his native village Pattiyan from Dharamadi in a Bolero vehicle. Accompanying him were his wife, cousin, and cousin's wife. As the vehicle passed through the mountainous stretch, a sudden landslide triggered by heavy rains sent massive boulders and debris crashing down, directly striking the vehicle and reducing it to rubble.
