Jammu, July 26 -- The Omar Abdullah-led government in Jammu and Kashmir is actively considering convening a special session of the Legislative Assembly to deliberate on the critical issue of restoring statehood to the Union Territory.

Within days of assuming office, the newly formed popular government has taken a significant political step, with the state cabinet already passing a resolution demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's full statehood.

The move signals the administration's intent to push for constitutional and political rights that were revoked in August 2019 when the erstwhile state was bifurcated and downgraded into two Union Territories.
