JAMMU, Oct. 8 -- The long-pending issue of proper channelisation and management of the Chenab River and its canal system came into sharp focus during a meeting between JKPCC Kissan Congress Chairman Bharat Priye and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhawan, Srinagar, with the LG assuring that the concerns of farmers would be examined and appropriate measures taken.
During the meeting, Bharat Priye placed before the Lieutenant Governor the difficulties being faced by farmers dependent on the Chenab canal system, particularly the problem of inadequate water reaching tail-end agricultural areas and the recurring damage caused when excess river and canal water spills into cultivated fields.
