JAMMU, July 27 -- To improve facilities for rail passengers and reduce crowding at stations, the Railway Board has taken an important decision. From 31 July 2026, passengers will be able to book their extra luggage online along with their ticket through the IRCTC website or mobile app. This will allow passengers to book both their ticket and luggage from the comfort of their homes, without having to stand in long queues at the parcel counter.

The free luggage allowance for each class will remain unchanged. For First AC it is 70 kg, for Second AC 50 kg, for Sleeper 40 kg, and for Second Class 35 kg.
