Jammu, June 15 -- Even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would fulfil the aspirations of the people of the Union Territory regarding the restoration of statehood, he on Monday made it clear that the National Conference (NC) would go ahead with its planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session.

Reiterating his party's commitment to pressing for the restoration of statehood, Omar said there was no change in the NC's decision to stage a protest in the national capital and remind the Centre of the assurances made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
