JAMMU, March 12 -- For most children, the first six years of life are filled with playgrounds, classrooms, and the comfort of a home. But for 1,492 children across India, early childhood unfolds behind prison walls, where their closest companions are iron gates, high security walls, and the constant watch of guards.

Out of these 1492 children, eight are from different jails of Jammu and Kashmir. Seven women prisoners with their eight children are lodged in different jails across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
