Jammu, Feb. 5 -- Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday said that the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir would take place only when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is convinced that lasting peace has been achieved and no Kashmiri youth would pick up guns or indulge in stone-pelting.
Speaking during the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor's address in the Assembly, Sharma said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fully supports the restoration of statehood but maintained that the situation must be conducive for such a step.
"Statehood will be restored only after an atmosphere is created in which no Kashmiri youth takes up arms or resorts to violence," he said.
