SRINAGAR, April 14 -- Baisakhi was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Kashmir on Tuesday, with the devotees thronging different gurdwaras to offer prayers. The main function was held at Gurdwara Chati Padshahi in the Rainawari area of the city, which was attended by a huge number of Sikh devotees. Senior officers of police and civil administration visited the Gurudwara to pay their obeisance. The celebrations by the members of the Sikh community were also held in various districts of the valley. Baisakhi, which marks the beginning of the harvest season, is also a commemoration of the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
