India, Sept. 17 -- Six states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana - have signed an agreement on the long-pending Kishau Multipurpose Project in the Yamuna basin.

The project, declared a national project, will have about 90% of its cost borne by the Centre, with the remaining 10% shared among the participating states.

The proposed 232.6m dam on the Tons River is expected to store 1,562 million cubic metres of water, irrigate 97,000 hectares and generate 1,476 million units of hydropower, according to the government.
