India, Sept. 15 -- The rupee weakened by 30 paise to 95.84 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, weighed down by elevated Brent crude oil prices and escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Brent crude prices touched $106 per barrel, prompting higher dollar demand from oil importers and raising concerns over India's external balance and inflation, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.84 against the US dollar, compared with its previous close of 95.54.
