India, Aug. 26 -- The rupee weakened by 22 paise to 87.78 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, after the US released a draft notice outlining plans to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods.
According to forex traders, strong dollar demand from importers and concerns over the impending tariff, scheduled to take effect from August 27, weighed on the local currency.
