India, July 27 -- The Indian rupee appreciated 28 paise to 96.25 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, supported by a sharp decline in crude oil prices and improving global sentiment after the US and Iran signalled an easing of tensions in West Asia.
The local currency also drew support from a weaker US dollar index and strong buying interest in domestic equity markets, reflecting improved investor sentiment. However, after opening at 96.18, the rupee pared some of its gains to trade at 96.28 against the greenback.
