India, Sept. 3 -- The Indian rupee strengthened for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, rising 14 paise to close at 94.59 (provisional) against the US dollar, supported by an improved balance of payments position following strong foreign currency deposit inflows.
India attracted a record USD 127.23 billion through FCNR(B) deposits under the RBI's special programme aimed at boosting foreign exchange liquidity.
Including Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCB) and External Commercial Borrowings (ECB), total inflows under the measures stood at USD 136.377 billion, according to RBI data.
