India, Feb. 23 -- The rupee strengthened by 21 paise to 90.73 against the US dollar in early Monday trade, supported by a sharp decline in global crude oil prices and a softer greenback amid renewed uncertainty over US President Donald Trump's proposed tariff hike to 15 per cent.
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 1.09 per cent to USD 70.98 per barrel.
Forex traders noted that a robust opening in domestic equity markets, coupled with a rise in forex reserves, further bolstered the local currency.
