India, Aug. 4 -- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Monisha Chakraborty as its new Executive Director (ED) with effect from August 3, 2026.

Before her elevation, Chakraborty served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision. A career central banker with over three decades of experience, she has worked across key areas including banking supervision, foreign exchange, and government and bank accounts. She has also served as the Banking Ombudsman and was a member of the technical committee that reviewed the format of the RBI's balance sheet and profit and loss account.

In her new role, Monisha Chakraborty will oversee the Foreign Exchange Department and the Financial Markets Regulation Department.
